These are the five words we are going to learn today.

ambiguity

Examples:
  1. Her answer was full of ambiguity, so I wasn’t sure what she really meant.
  2. Her facial expression was filled with ambiguity—was she happy or sad?

delicate

 /ˈdel.ə.kət/

adjective

Delicate means something that is fragile, easily broken, or requires careful handling. It can also describe something soft, light, or very detailed.

Examples:

  1. The delicate glass vase must be handled with care.
  2. The flower’s petals are delicate and soft.

facetious

 /fəˈsiː.ʃəs/

adjective

Facetious means treating serious issues with deliberate or inappropriate humor; not meant to be taken seriously. It often implies joking in a way that might be playful, sarcastic, or even a bit disrespectful.

Examples:

  1. She made a facetious remark about the teacher’s strict rules, which made the teacher angry.
  2. I was just being facetious—I didn’t actually mean you should quit your job!

reluctant

/rɪˈlʌk.tənt/

adjective

Reluctant means unwilling or hesitant to do something, often because of doubt or discomfort.

Examples:

  1. She was reluctant to speak in front of the crowd because she was shy.
  2. The child was reluctant to go to bed early.

vanish

 /ˈvæn.ɪʃ/

verb

Vanish means to disappear suddenly or completely.

Examples:

  1. The fog will vanish when the sun comes up.
  2. All the cookies vanished before I could have one!
