SPIRITED AWAY

Spirited Away is a story that reminds us what it was like to be a kid. The story is narrated through the eyes of a ten-year-old girl named Chihiro.

They were going to their new place, but her father made a wrong turn, and they ended up in front of a tunnel. On the other side of the tunnel was an abandoned amusement park, but there were many hot, delicious food stalls, and her parents started eating, believing they could pay later.

Chihiro explored the area and met a boy named Haku, who told her she needed to cross the river before it got dark. But when she returned to her parents, they had already turned into pigs. As scared as she was, she still ran toward the river, but it was too late.

Haku found her again and told her that he was a friend and would help her. However, she needed to find a job first because Yubaba, the witch who ruled this world, would turn her into an animal if she did not.

She was given a job in the bathhouse, and as a result, she forgot her real name. Her first client was a large stinker who gave her a gift afterward. Next was the No-Face Spirit who only wants her.

The next day, she went back to where her parents were to show them what the River Spirit gave her, but there were so many pigs that she could not recognize them.

Chihiro later saw a wounded white dragon being chased by flying paper cutouts. This dragon turned out to be Haku. He had stolen something from Zeniba, Yubaba’s twin sister, which is why he was on the brink of death. Chihiro wanted to save him.

So Chihiro and her friends went to Swamp Bottom to ask Zeniba to lift the curse. It was a long, silent ride, and it was already dark when they arrived.

Zeniba was waiting for them.

This story shows that children are scared, stubborn, and curious. It reminds us that children know a lot more than we think they do.
