These are the five words we are going to learn today.

drudge

A person who does hard, boring, or menial work, usually for little reward or recognition.

Examples:

  1. After years as a kitchen drudge, she finally opened her own bakery.

  2. He didn’t want to be a corporate drudge stuck in a cubicle forever.

emaciation

 /iˌmeɪ.siˈeɪ.ʃən/

noun

An extreme state of being very thin or weak, usually because of illness, lack of food, or severe neglect.

Examples:

  1. The stray dog’s emaciation showed how long it had been without care.

  2. Her emaciation was the result of a long illness.

ferocious

/fəˈroʊ.ʃəs/

adjective

Extremely fierce, violent, or intense — it can describe animals, people, actions, or even feelings.

Examples:

  1. She gave a ferocious speech defending her beliefs.

  2. The typhoon brought ferocious winds that tore off rooftops.

nuisance

/ˈnuː.səns/

noun

A person, thing, or situation that causes inconvenience, annoyance, or trouble.

Examples:

  1. The mosquitoes are such a nuisance during summer.

  2. It’s a nuisance to have the internet go down in the middle of work.

privy

 /ˈprɪv.i/

adjective

To know a secret or have access to private information.

Examples:

  1. Only the managers were privy to the company’s financial problems.

  2.  She was privy to their plan before anyone else knew.
